With Help Yourself Divorce, all you have to do is answer a few questions, sit back, and wait for your paperwork.
General Qualifications
We can help you if you meet the following qualifications:
- You and your spouse must agree on all issues of your divorce, including property division, alimony, child custody and support
- You must both be willing and able to cooperate and sign the paperwork
- You must both be willing to attend any required court appearances
- You must meet the specific requirements in your state
The Filing Process
Once you get the papers, all you and your spouse have to do is sign and file them. We provide you with complete, step-by-step instructions along with your paperwork. The specific process will depend on the procedure in your state and county, but this is what you can generally expect:
- Print the papers from your computer.
- Each spouse signs them.
- Take them to the courthouse and pay the filing fee (generally around $100-400, depending on where you file).
- In some cases, you may need to “serve” your spouse by mailing or hand-delivering a copy of the papers. Rarely, formal service using a Sheriff or process server may be required. Check your state’s divorce procedure to confirm this.
- Wait for your divorce to be finalized. In some states, this means you must attend a brief uncontested divorce hearing, while others simply mail your papers back to you when they are ready, with no court appearances required.
